Collaboration with VERDN

Since March 2021, we have committed to planting at least one mangrove tree or recovering plastic from the ocean for every item we purchase. We achieve this by partnering with VERDN, the EDEN Reforestation Project and Empower AS.

Where does this happen?

In partnership with Verdn, Eden's reforestation project, and Empower AS, we plant mangrove trees on your behalf in Madagascar, Mozambique, or Kenya. We also remove plastic from the oceans in either Africa or Southeast Asia.

Providing local jobs

Tree planting and plastic collection provide vital income to local villagers so they can provide for their families living in disadvantaged communities.

Why do we plant mangrove trees?

Mangrove forests are key ecosystems whose dense roots serve as anchors to the soil and coastline, preventing erosion and creating a barrier between harsh ocean systems and the land. They store four times more carbon than even tropical forests, making them an important tool for mitigating climate change.

Doing good for our planet

A single mangrove tree can remove over 300 kg of CO2 from the atmosphere, provided it grows for 25 years. That's about 12 kg of CO2 per year. Every year 8 million tons of plastic enter the oceans. By collecting this plastic before it pollutes our seas, it can be recycled or used for energy.

Additional impacts

In addition to mitigating climate change, forests also perform other critical functions for the Earth's biosphere. They are home to the vast majority of Earth's plant and animal species. Forests also play a huge role in providing water, protecting soil, and regulating climate.
