Following their decommission in 1959, the VF-84 Vagabonds were redesignated as the Jolly Rogers to preserve the history of their &#8220;bones&#8221;. When they were equipped with the F-14A Tomcat, they participated in the motion picture \u201cThe Final Countdown\u201d which propelled the skull-and-crossbones-adorned F-14 to gain worldwide recognition.<\/p>\n<p>In 1995, the VF-84 was decommissioned and VF-103 (formerly the Sluggers) became the new Jolly Rogers and adopted Ensign Jack Ernie\u2019s skull-and-crossbones on all-black tails.
